How Google’s Notebook LM Became My Personal Podcast Producer (and Business Intelligence Powerhouse)

Google's Notebook LM has been a game changer for me to stay organized and manage the overwhelming amount of information involved in researching potential investments. It streamlines the process of reading annual reports and keeping up with the latest filings. If you haven't tried it yet, I highly recommend it.

Here's how I use Google's LLM to create custom podcasts about any company:

Information Gathering: I feed the LLM relevant information about the company. This can include:

    • Company website and "About Us" section

    • Recent news articles and press releases

    • Financial reports (10-Ks, 10-Qs)

    • Analyst reports (if available)

    • Competitor information

    • Transcripts of earnings calls

Podcast Generation: I prompt the LLM to create a podcast script based on the information provided. I can customize the prompt to focus on specific areas of interest, such as:

    • "Create a 15-minute podcast summarizing the key strategic initiatives of Microsoft."

    • "Generate a podcast discussing the competitive landscape for Nike, focusing on their main rivals and their key differentiators."

    • "Produce a podcast analyzing the financial performance of Pepsi over the past three years."

Listen and Learn: Now I have a custom podcast that I can listen to anytime, anywhere. It's like having a personal analyst break down the company for me in an engaging and digestible format.

Why This Works So Well:

  • Efficiency: I can absorb a lot of information in a short amount of time.

  • Engagement: Listening to a podcast is much more engaging than reading a report.

  • Customization: I can tailor the podcast to focus on the specific information I need.

  • Accessibility: I can listen to the podcast anywhere, anytime.

Beyond the Basics:

I've even started experimenting with asking the LLM to:

  • Compare companies: "Create a podcast comparing the business models of Apple and Amazon."

  • Analyze industry trends: "Generate a podcast discussing the key trends shaping the Semiconductor industry."

  • Provide SWOT analysis: "Produce a podcast analyzing the strengths, weaknesses, opportunities, and threats for Uber."

The Future of Company Research:

This is just the beginning. As LLMs continue to evolve, I believe this approach will become even more powerful. Imagine being able to ask the LLM to:

  • Conduct sentiment analysis of news articles and social media posts about a company.

  • Predict future performance based on historical data and current trends.

  • Play “devil’s advocate” for my investment thesis.

The possibilities are endless.
